Classic 243 Slot Review

Just a few years ago, there were basically no retro-themed slots to care and write about. Well, that’s certainly not the case anymore, as we now have a new retro-themed release to check out virtually every single month.

Classic 243, which was released by Rabcat at the start of 2017, is one of the more interesting ones, however, so we’ve decided to take a look at it in a full-fledged review. It’s also one of the best-looking ones, so it’s got that going for it at the very least.

Theme and Graphics

Retro-themed games rarely come with specific themes and Classic 243 is indeed no different in this regard, so don’t expect to see any story here. There’s just nothing like that – instead, you’ll be thrown into a world that has all the symbols that one would typically associate with old-school slot games. Not only are there bells, sevens, and BAR symbols, but there’s also a full range of card symbols that go from Tens to Aces.

The graphical style is very futuristic and we do have to highlight that there are also plenty of animations to keep you occupied at all times, so there’s very little to complain about when it comes to how the game looks and feels – Classic 243 really is a beautiful game if you can get past the fact that there’s no actual theme.

To round things off, we also have to give some credit to the sound designers, as they managed to come up with a soundtrack that’s a brilliant fit for the slot’s atmosphere – it’s just safe to say that you will like all the audiovisuals if you like futuristic things.

Gameplay

The above might all be fine and well, but does Classic 243 also has some interesting gameplay features? Well, it does – in total, there are three things that we simply have to talk about in this section.

First of all, there’s a Wild symbol that works like a joker, being able to replace any other symbol in a winning combination.

Secondly, there’s a Scatter symbol that can activate the slot’s Free Spins Feature. All you need to get are three of these symbols anywhere – and you’ll then be rewarded with a nice little treasure of ten free spins. That would be quite boring on its own, however, so the designers decided to include two interesting kickers that make things more exciting. First, each free spin comes with two or three stacked Wild symbols, which naturally increases your overall winning chances. Second, you can win ten additional free spins by getting another set of Scatter symbols anywhere on the playing field during any free spin.

Finally, there’s the so-called Gamble Game that allows you to multiply your winnings after virtually any spin. It’s all about guessing the outcome of a stylized coin flip – guessing right will double your winnings, but guessing wrong will take everything away.

Technicalities

Classic 243 is using a fully orthodox setup that has five reels and three rows, so there’s absolutely nothing to surprise you on that front. And, as you’ve probably figured out by now, the game is using the well-known 243 Ways to Win feature instead of regular paylines.

The inclusion of that feature obviously limits the number of betting options, but things aren’t actually all that bad here, as the betting levels run from just €0.20 all the way up to €40.

And the slot’s RTP? Well, it appears to be fixed at something like 97%, so Classic 243 performs well above the par in that particular department.

Summary

Alright, so what’s our final verdict on Classic 243? Well, there’s no denying that it’s one of the best-looking retro-themed slot games on the market at the moment, but we aren’t convinced that this should be enough for us to call it great. After all, we think that slot games are a lot about the actual gameplay – and there isn’t all that much to be found here as far as that particular thing is concerned.

That doesn’t mean that the game is bad and that we wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, however. In fact, we would recommend it to every single player that would like to see a retro take on the 243 Ways to Win concept – just don’t expect an experience that would last you for more than an hour or two.

Where to Play

Classic 243 was produced by the Rabcat studios, but it’s being distributed by Microgaming, so you should be able to find it at virtually all the Microgaming-powered online casinos out there. Chances are that you don’t have any of them at your disposal just yet, however, so let us give you one really good recommendation that goes by the name of All Slots.

Like Classic 243, All Slots are quite a bit about old-school feelings. Whereas many other online casinos are trying to overwhelm their customers with plenty of glitz and glamour, All Slots are keeping things simple and straightforward without sacrificing anything on the quality front. They also have some of the lowest deposit limits of any online casino starting at just $1.00 for many deposit options. Sadly they do not have a UK licence and do not take UK players.

Not only is there a very solid repertoire of slots from Microgaming, but there’s also an excellent number of live tables from both Microgaming and Evolution Gaming, so you don’t have to be afraid of running out of things to play. And is all that accompanied by a good welcome bonus? You bet – All Slots welcome all newcomers with a welcome offer that’s worth as much as €1600. It all really is a well-rounded package if there has ever been one!
