Gold Lab Slot Review

We’re constantly looking for new slot games to review and we’re especially happy to review those that weren’t getting a lot of attention during the development phase, so it shouldn’t surprise you to learn that we’ve now decided to take a closer look at Gold Lab, which was released by QuickSpin in 2016.

Theme and Graphics

As its title suggests, this slot is all about tinkering with various gems and potions – and those are the things that you’re going to find on the game’s symbols. The good news is that the designers were creative enough to come up with unique visual designs for all of them, so you aren’t going find any Aces or Kings on the reels here. We reckon that it wasn’t particularly hard to create several potions and several gems, but we’ve already seen other games developers messing things up even when they were supposed to be easy, so fair play to QuickSpin.

Although there isn’t all that much glitter to be found here, everything is completely fine from the technical point of view and the slot runs like a charm even on computers that aren’t exactly modern, so that’s yet another nice plus to be mentioned.

The soundtrack, on the other hand, might be slightly too cheesy for your liking, but it’s fine for what it is nonetheless, providing a nice backdrop for the action. You’ll probably want to turn it off after a few spins, but it’s far from being a disaster.

Gameplay

Let’s now focus on the slot’s gameplay, which is somewhat centered around the four symbols that you can find on the right side of the playing field. Those symbols are called Beaker symbols and they all have a corresponding Golden Bonus Scatter symbol to be found somewhere on the game’s reels.

Once you find three of them during a single spin, you’re going to trigger four respins. During them, all corresponding Beaker symbols on the reels will transform into Wilds, making wins much more likely. Chances are that you’ll also find more Golden Bonus Scatter symbols during the respins – in that case, you’re going to get even more Wilds and also one additional respin to look forward to.

The bonus game can only be triggered if you get three Golden Bonus Scatter symbols, but those aren’t worthless when standing alone either, as they can sometimes make new winning lines.

To round things off, we also have to mention that the game’s Wild symbols can appear during the base game as well, working as a substitute for all symbols except the Golden Bonus Scatter symbols.

Technicalities

Gold Lab is using a completely orthodox setup that has twenty-five fixed paylines spread across five reels and three rows, so there are no surprises to be found on this particular front.

The fact that the paylines are fixed does sometimes mean that there are less options as far as the betting levels are concerned, but there’s nothing to be worried about in this particular case, as QuickSpin have included plenty of default levels to choose from. In fact, you only need to have €0.10 in your account in order to be able to give this game a go! Those who want to play for more, however, can increase the stakes to €25, €50 or €100.

Interestingly, you can also choose from a huge number of autoplay options, which could make the game appealing for players that are looking to fulfill certain roll-over criteria without having to actually sit at a slot game. It’s possible to select not only how many plays you want to get handled automatically, but also what the loss limit should be in case you aren’t feeling particularly lucky.

The theoretical RTP (return to player) stands at 96.09% and that’s pretty much in line with what one would expect, so there are no minuses for us to give out here either.

Summary

Although it’s clear that Gold Lab doesn’t have any massive ambitions, it is most certainly one of the better games released in 2016 and that’s more than enough for us to give QuickSpin a big thumbs up. It isn’t easy to come up with interesting ideas in traditional slot gaming, but Gold Lab has a fresh gameplay that isn’t completely thoughtless and we appreciate that a lot, as we’re already sick and tired of seeing ideas getting reproduced over and over again.

Chances are that you’ll want to use Gold Lab in order to fill the void between all those epic slots you love, but it’s also a great game on its own, so don’t hesitate to give it a few spins straight away!

Where to Play

Gold Lab comes from the QuickSpin studios and those guys are among the most promising out there at the moment, which means that their games can be found at a large number of excellent online casinos.

Chances are that you don’t have an account at any of them just yet, however, so we’d like to point you in the direction of Unibet, who are one of those casinos that we would even dare to call premium. It hasn’t always been like that, but they’ve really stepped up their efforts in the last couple of years, producing a nice re-design and signing deals with a good number of superb games developers (including QuickSpin).

What they have on offer now includes not only a great games catalogue, but also fabulous bonuses, an excellent range of live casino tables and splendid mobile apps for all kinds of mobile devices. As if that wasn’t enough, there’s also a great sports betting service to be enjoyed, which makes Unibet ideal for players that want something truly universal.
