Dragon Born Slot Review

With features like 243 Ways to Win now being present all across the board, it’s very easy to find a slot game with plenty of paylines and it’s not that easy to come up with something truly new and innovative in that particular department.

Big Time Gaming have managed to do just that with their trademark Megaways feature, however, and the Dragon Born slot game from Big Time is an excellent demonstration of what the feature can do. It’s therefore no surprise that we’ve decided to write a full-fledged review of that slot – and those of you who are looking for fresh experiences should certainly give it a read!

Theme and Graphics

When it comes to the theme, Dragon Born is pretty much your standard fantasy fare, so you can expect to see knights, witches and also a few dragons on the slot’s symbols. Symbols with lower values, on the other hand, depict various gems and also the traditional suite of A-K-Q-J-10-9.

Dragon Born Slot

The graphics are quite good from the technical point of view and they do a great job evoking a fantasy atmosphere. The soundtrack is rather pleasant as well, so we’re willing to give Dragon Born high marks for how it looks and sounds – the only thing that’s stopping it from being excellent is the fact that the designers weren’t able to come up with a truly unique set of symbols that wouldn’t include things like Aces and Kings.

Gameplay

With the audiovisuals out of the way, it’s time for us to take a look at the gameplay features Dragon Born comes with, starting with the mandatory Wild symbol.

That one comes in the form of a joker and it actually has a few features that you wouldn’t automatically associate with Wild symbols. Not only does it work as a substitute for all the regular symbols, but it also always covers an entire reel during the base game. That’s not all, however, as the Wild also works as a x7 multiplier, with two Wilds in a winning combination working together to multiply your winnings by x49! You can’t get more than two Wilds during a single spin and you can’t get one on the first reel either, but who would complain given all these perks?

Apart from that, there’s also the Diamond Scatter symbol that’s there to activate the game’s Free Spins feature. Three of these symbols will give you just six free spins, but six of them will ramp that up to fifty, so you’ll be in for a payout bonanza if you’re lucky enough.

The free spins themselves fix all reels to 7 symbols and you can earn extra ones by getting more Diamonds during them – the only downside is that free spins introduce single Wilds, so you aren’t guaranteed to get full stacks of those.

Technicalities

Dragon Born uses a highly unorthodox playing field that’s actually one of the trademarks of Big Time Gaming. We can’t really even say how many rows it has, because those stay fluid throughout the game. The number of reels is locked at six, however.

The number of symbols that are displayed on each reel can change with every single spin and it ranges from one to seven, which naturally also has a massive effect on the number of paylines. Their number is conveniently displayed at the top of the playing field – and it can go up to 117649 if you’re lucky enough to get at 7×6 playing field!

This system is naturally highly intriguing, but it does have one small downside in that it doesn’t allow for a great number of betting levels. Thankfully, there’s still a decent amount of options to choose from, so all players should be able to find a convenient staking plan. The lowest possible bet stands at just €0.20, but those who want to play for more can take that up to €40.

The theoretical RTP (return to player) of Dragon Born has been set to 95%, which is slightly below what we would call the industry standard.

Summary

If you’re one of those guys that love playing with a lot of paylines, Dragon Born is essentially a must-play thanks to the Megaways feature – after all, there’s nothing else quite like it on the market right now. The designers also managed to implement some interesting gameplay features into the game on top of Megaways, so there really is a lot to be liked here, especially since the audiovisuals don’t have any rough edges either.

It’s all fairly simple, really – unless you consider yourself to be a very conservative player, you should give Dragon Born at least a couple of spins!

Where to Play

As we’ve already mentioned, Dragon Born comes from Big Time Gaming, a games company that’s been around since 2011. The fact that it’s still quite young isn’t affecting its ability to sign deals with big online casinos, however, so you shouldn’t have any issues finding one that has the Dragon Born slot in its games arsenal.

It’s the Bet365 casino that we would like to recommend here, however. Not only do these guys have a cracking games selection that includes slots from a good number of games developers, and a nice low deposit limit starting at £5.00, but they also tend to have generous bonuses and promotions on offer at all times.

And the best thing? Apart from being a superb online casino, Bet365 are also perhaps the very best sports betting service on the market at the moment. It covers pretty much every single sporting event and it even has live streams for the biggest of them, so it’s basically a must-have for everyone who likes to bet on sports from time to time.
