Some of you may think that there isn’t a great deal of difference between regular slot machines and their online counterparts. That may be true to some extent, but the harsh reality is that we haven’t seen many developers of regular slot machines making the jump to the online world – and many of those who tried to do that failed spectacularly.
With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at Aristocrat, who have always been among the leading companies in the land-based industry.
Official site : Aristocrat
Aristocrat have been in the business since 1953, which makes them one of the oldest companies in the entire industry. With licenses in 240 jurisdictions spread around 90 countries all over the world, they’re also one of the companies that can claim to have a truly global presence. And the number of employees? Well, the team had more than 3000 members at the time of writing.
Interestingly, the company faced some tough times in 2008 and 2009. The CEO tried to blame the global financial crisis for the bad financial results, but many critics pointed out that other companies in the gaming sector reported record growth in that particular period.
Aristocrat are headquartered in Australia, but they maintain offices in a number of countries, including the United States, Japan, South Africa and Russia.
Sadly, they do not allow Australian players to play their games online. This is part of their licence deal with the online casinos that use their software.
As we’ve already mentioned, traditional slot games are Aristocrat’s main forte – and we have to say that their services and offers in that particular department are impressive enough. In fact, the company holds over 2100 patents and 2900 trademarks, which well and truly shows that it is actually part of the industry’s history.
The success Aristocrat had in the land-based industry probably led to them deciding to try their hand at online gaming as well, but they are yet to make any significant impact on that particular front. In fact, they’re yet to develop any online-only slot games – so far, they’ve been all about remakes and re-editions.
Land-based casinos have never been offering slots with as many features as their online counterparts – and the fact that Aristocrat focus on the brick-and-mortar industry first and foremost is quite evident when one starts to evaluate their online slots, most of which are basically carbon copies of what you would get when visiting their land-based partners.
Put simply, if you’re looking for innovative gameplay features and fascinating audiovisuals, you’ll have to look elsewhere for your fix. What Aristocrat offer is serviceable, but it is noticeably worse than the top of the crop.
Top Online Slot Games
Although Aristocrat haven’t really produced a lot of online slot games, you might not – for obvious reasons – want to play all of them. Therefore, we’ve decided to select the three best games that will give you a good idea about how these guys roll.
Firstly, there’s the Buffalo online slot that comes with a fairly fresh take on what we imagine to be the typical American wilderness. It’s one of the newer releases coming from Aristocrat, which means that it has solid audiovisuals and decent gameplay features that should keep you entertained for at least a few hours.
Apart from that, you should also give the 2Can slot a go if you’re looking for a game with a truly South-American feel. It’s got a pretty nice atmosphere and all the typical features are included as well – and you simply can’t find a lot of online slots that build on the very same theme.
Finally, there’s also the game that’s considered to be an absolute classic by many, the Queen of the Nile online slot. It’s modelled after the classic slot of the same name and it brings all that classic fun to the computer screens. The bonus feature that can bring you free spins with a win multiplier is probably the slot’s main highlight.
Aristocrat have never seemed to be particularly concerned about making their online slot games available for as many customers as possible, so we can’t really guarantee that you’ll be able to enjoy them on your mobile devices as well. You might be able to get them to run on your iOS and Android devices, but the experience isn’t very likely to be hassle-free.
Thankfully, desktops are a completely different area, so you shouldn’t have any issues accessing Aristocrat’s games from your personal computer.
Although Aristocrat’s online ventures haven’t exactly failed, we do have a few gripes with them – and the bad news is that it doesn’t seem very likely that Aristocrat will remedy them in the near future.
First of all, the fact that they’re yet to develop their first online-only game shows that they’ll always consider online gaming to be secondary to their primary business. This is understandable given the success they’re having in that department, but it also means that we’ll probably never rate them as highly as we rate the true giants of the online sector.
Secondly, it doesn’t even seem that they want to make any deals with big online casinos, so, if you want to give their games a spin, you’ll have to choose from a very limited selection.
And don’t get us started on their marketing! Although they have brilliantly-designed websites talking about their achievements and successes, it’s almost impossible to find any details regarding their online ambitions – and if that isn’t an ominous sign, we don’t know what is.
And we have already mentioned the restriction on Australian players above.
As far as we are concerned, there isn’t much to see at Aristocrat right now. They might be a very reputable company when it comes to the land-based industry and they might be very good there as well, but their online services just aren’t good enough for us to recommend them ahead of the others. Put simply, doing that wouldn’t be fair to them, as they are clearly investing more resources into the online games and solutions – and the difference is just too big for us to ignore it.
